Almost one month!!

It's hard to believe that Reid will be one month tomorrow! She seems less like a newborn everyday, she is staying awake longer and becoming more interactive. She loves to be held and screams when she is put down for more than a few seconds so she hasn't had much opportunity to try out any of her play mats or bouncy chairs yet, maybe she will get more comfortable with the idea of being away from mommy for a minute or two this month.....but if not, that's okay.  Knowing this with be (in all likelihood) our last baby, I'm trying to savor it. Actually, she had her calmest moments out of my arms yet today-- Harper was watching "Yo Gabba Gabba" and I put Reid in her chair to quickly run upstairs and when I came back, Reid's eyes were glued to the TV, mesmerized.  Hmmmmm.

Harper & Marshall

We had dinner with our friends Lisa and Chris and their children Marshall and Maggie on Sunday night.  Marshall is a month younger than Harper and Maggie is three months older than Reid (although they didn't do much playing).  Harper and Marshall played so well together, the adults and little babies were able to enjoy dinner together while they played downstairs in the playroom (we had a monitor on them, we're not completely negligent parents!!).  Harper and Marshall shared some fist bumps, high-fives and hugs before we left.

Getting chubbier by the day.....

Since Reid and Harper started out at basically the same size, it is very easy for me to compare their weight gain.  At one month, Harper weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces after dropping to a low of 6 pounds, 3 ounces a few days after birth.  Since Reid doesn't officially have a one month appointment at the pediatrician, I am going to take her in next Friday for a weight check, since I am rather neurotic and likely unnecessarily concerned about her size.  I would guess that she is over 8 pounds now.  She no longer fits in newborn sized clothes and all she does is eat.  Well, eat, sleep and cry every time I try to put her down.  But mostly eat.  She is a very good sleeper.  Last night she slept 6 straight hours, nursed and then had a 4 hour stretch. As frustrating as it is to feed her literally all day long, I remind myself that it is much better than feeding her all night long.

Harper's quotes of the week....

On Sunday, when we were heading out to church, Andy and I decided to take two separate cars because Andy had a massage appointment shortly after.  Harper overheard our conversation, walked over to her plastic, orange coop car and opened the door, saying, "I'm going to take my own car too."

I was getting Harper ready for school and we were having our daily battle to brush her hair.  She was protesting and I told her that I really needed to brush her hair because it had a knot in it.  She said, "A nut?!? There's a nut in my hair?"  I explained to her that it wasn't a nut, it was a knot.  A few days later, Harper was right up in Reid's face, as usual, and Reid reached her hand out and pulled on Harper's hair.  Harper said, "She wants the nut in my hair."

In the car: "Thank you mommy for my baby sister."  Awwww...how sweet.

Is that a smile??

Afternoon at the playground

It's been so nice out lately that we've been spending as much time outside as possible.  Harper has grown up so much lately, she wants to keep up with all the big kids on the playground and do everything by herself.

Popsicles & Snow: Only in Denver

Five days ago it was snowing and cold, with temperatures lingering around 0.  But this weekend we had a change, it was close to 60 yesterday and 65 today, which actually felt kind of hot because the sun here is so strong.  Harper decided it was popsicle weather and she was close enough to correct that we let her have one.  It is supposed to stay near 60 until the end of the week so that snow won't last long!

Two week update

Reid had her two week appointment on Tuesday and I was thrilled to find out that she regained all of the weight that she had lost (dropping from 6-10 at birth to 6-1 a few days later) plus a few ounces, bringing her up to a hefty 7 pounds, 2.5 ounces.  At this point, she's in the 17% for weight, 30% for height and 40% for head circumference.  In addition to feeling relieved that she's growing and gaining adequately, I was very excited because I will no longer feel like I have to wake her after 4 hours at night for a feeding.  She is a great sleeper, great eater and overall easy, mellow and happy baby! I made the mistake of having some brie cheese yesterday morning after largely avoiding dairy (other than fermented dairy and butter) for the last month and Reid certainly let us know that her belly wasn't feeling quite right last night, she fussed for the first time and her stomach was distended.  Won't make that mistake again!

Sleeping Reid

Reid took a nap on Anna while Harper ran around at "The Village," an indoor playground near our house.

Sledding

Papa bought Harper a sled and we decided to try it out today since the temperature was above freezing for the first time in a week.  I got my first postpartum workout by dragging Harper around in the park across the street and through our backyard. We will probably head out again tomorrow but since temperatures are forecast to be around 60 for the weekend, I'm sure our snow won't last many days more.

One shot from yesterday's session

Kristie was so sweet and already let us see one of the photos from yesterday's session.  The rest will be ready in the week.  This stage passes so quickly, I'm glad we will have these beautiful photos to look back on.

Wide-eyed

Newborn photo session

Reid had her first photo shoot today.  It was a lot of fun and our photographer is amazing so I'm sure the photos will be too! We tried to get a few family shots and sisters-only shots as well, though a certain 2 year old wasn't very cooperative.  I'm sure a few came out.  I was able to sneak a photo myself, though the difference between how it comes out taken with my iphone and how it will come out when Kristie processes it are bound to be two very different photos (plus we took that pacifier out!).  We should have some previews in a week!
