Play date with Lilah!
She's really going to miss Lilah when we leave. They had an instant bond when they met at summer camp in 2011.

Moving back to Colorado!
Well, you can't undo every mistake in life, but we are very fortunate that we are able to undo the mistake we made over 2 years ago when we left Colorado! We knew, from literally days after we left, that we should have stayed. We have tried to make it work in the midwest but this is not the place for us to call our permanent home. We miss our outdoorsy lifestyle and the Colorado sunshine. We miss being in a place that is populated with more like-minded, holistically-thinking people. A fantastic job offer for Andy in Colorado combined with the fact that my business, OHCO, truly calls Colorado home, sealed the deal for us!
We will put our adorable bungalow on the market next week and head west on Reid's birthday, January 25. We will most likely live in Lafayette, in Boulder County but haven't bought a house yet. We are heading out to house-shop in two weeks. We already know that we love Colorado, it is our home. When we were determined to leave during the years between Harper's birth until we moved, we had this image of living close to family, having our kids grow up with their cousins and grandparents playing a very steady role in their lives. Chicago is closer to family but it's not close enough in to make any significant difference in the role family plays in our life. A flight is a flight, whether it be a 2 hour one or a 4 hour one. As the girls grow, flights will not have the same stress as they did when I was juggling a newborn and a 2 year old.
We are very excited about this next stage in our lives and are happy to be able to fully settle down in a place that we know we will want to call home for a very long time, perhaps forever.

Harper's quote of the day
Harper: Ms. Alma said 'no kissing in class.'
Me: Why did she say that?
Harper: Because Liam keeps trying to kiss me during class. I might marry him.
I won't go into the details of the rest of the conversation but we discussed how it is inappropriate for Liam to try to kiss her during class and how she should respond to it. This is not the first incident with Liam, I think I'll have a talk with Ms. Alma tomorrow. Age 5? I was not expecting this so soon.

read this today
And it really, really resonated with me! Especially as it relates to our time in Cleveland and how awful it was to start having panic attacks. Those three months are still the worst time of my life.
You may never know who your true friends are until life throws you an unwelcome curveball. When this happens and the friends or family you thought would help carry you through don't, you go through stages of grief. It's devastating. As time passes, you can either be resentful, bitter and heartbroken, or you can be so incredibly thankful that you've learned a valuable life lesson.

Reid's quote of the week
It's been a rough week here at the Pillari house. Thankfully, Gramma Pillari swept in to help spare us complete catastrophe. I woke up Monday morning unable to walk. I have felt this pain before, it's not something that is new to me, I have suffered with back issues for years. But this was definitely worse. A few hours into the pain, I realized that I was experiencing a medical emergency and Andy came home to bring me to the hospital.
No surprise, I'm not really a hospital kind of girl. I was mortified by what was going on around me and what was offered to me (soda? really, soda?? Unbelievable.). I spared them my speech on how I hadn't drank soda since college and don't you know what's in that and no, diet is not better... Anyway, the hospital was the only place for me to be so I kept quiet and dealt. I accepted the drugs they offered me, despite the fact that nothing eased the pain- until they gave me liquid morphine and that only kind of eased the pain. Four MRIs later and they told me that I have 2 bulging lumbar discs and 1 herniated disc. I've basically been out of it all week. Today was the first day I could walk and I had appointments with my naprapath and acupuncturist. Tomorrow starts PT. I am determined to get through this and have my active lifestyle back! But I won't be participating in the 30/40 day yoga challenge at my studio! And no half marathons for a while. Think I'll try out swimming and Pilates for a while.
Anyway, to Reid's quote. She is still nursing, which she still calls "nikkabow" and since I had to take drugs, I did not want her nursing.
Me, to Reid: I'm sorry you can't nikkabow, it's all filled with drugs.
Reid: Filled with bugs!! That's not true Mommy.Your nikkabow doesn't have bugs!
And then she wrinkled up her face in disgust and jumped out of bed to find Daddy.

Reid's school pictures
Looking so sweet, as usual, but she looks very grown up in these pictures too! Here is a link to her photos (you need a flash player to see them, so can't look on a phone).

Harper's quote of the day
Mom, if Reid is still a kid when I'm a grown-up can I be her teacher?
This was after her list of things she wants to be when she grows up: a baker, dolphin trainer, astronaut, runner and a teacher.
Love that girl so much.

Harper's Birthday Party
Harper had her birthday party a few weeks before her actual birthday. The school picnic is next weekend and the following weekend she'll be off to DisneyWorld with her Anna so this is the weekend that worked. She had her first "girls-only" party. We went to Lemonmade, an adorable hair salon in Oak Park and the ladies had their hair done with sparkles, nails painted and lots of crafts & dancing. It was very sweet.

At the playground
Harper has been going to soccer practice three days per week so Reid and I have been having fun at the playground adjacent to the field during her practices.
Loves washing the dog and cat
I think she's spent 90% of her time in a Montessori classroom, including the summer camp she attended, washing the dog and cat.

Our soccer star!
I guess when you are the offspring of parents who met on the soccer field, this type of outcome is likely! Harper scored 5 of the 6 goals for her team at yesterday's game. She is incredible! And so humble, obviously, at her age. She is just out there, having fun but also stealing away with the ball and putting it in the goal. We are so proud! Andy was able to capture some of the action. It's not the best-quality video but she is the blond who keeps emerging with the ball.

Harper's First Soccer Game
She is certainly Andy's daughter! She scored three of her team's five goals. She loved it and watching her out there was definitely the highlight of the weekend. Before next weekend's game, we will have a lesson about not stealing the ball from your own teammates.

The Hideout Block Party
We met some friends visiting from San Francisco at a hipster music festival downtown. Of course, Harper dressed the part.
