Seven Month Update

We went to the doctor today, not an official appointment, just to get a vaccination since Harper is on a modified schedule. Anyway, I took the opportunity to put Harper on the scale. She now weighs 16 pounds, 12 ounces which puts her in the 60%, a jump from last month, which doesn't surprise me at all since she still continues to nurse all the time in addition to eating solid food a few times a day.

She is a very active baby and is constantly in motion. She can sit, roll, grasp all of her toys, jump in her jumperoo and is beginning to crawl. She gets up all fours and rocks, right now she tries to move by putting her head on the floor and pivoting. It's pretty funny. She was kind of late with sitting and still isn't quite a professional at it because she prefers to roll. It is almost as if she doesn't see the point in sitting because it doesn't get her anywhere. She has gotten very mischievous with her rolling skill. I used to be able to put her down on her blanket on the floor with her toys and get some chores done around the house that might involve me leaving the room momentarily. That luxury has been compromised now that I've seen her roll over to the plant and pull the leaves off, roll under the TV stand and get stuck or roll through the door and into the next room.

We have made lots of new friends with similar aged babies and it has been a delight to see them interact. Harper has distinguished herself within her group of friends as the "noisy one." She screeches and squeals and makes a very goofy growling noise when she gets excited. I have been working with her on true babbling noises - "mama" "dada" "baba" but she's not interested yet, I'm sure that will come soon.

Other milestones that have been reached in the last month are: swimming for the first time, which she loved!, clapping, playing patty cake and waving. The last two skills are courtesy of Anna, who worked on them a lot during her April visit. She doesn't really understand when to wave so it is usually just luck that has her doing it at the appropriate time.

We have a summer of travel ahead: to Connecticut in June, Ohio in July, Washington state in August and Rhode Island in September. I am expecting flying to present a bit more of a challenge now that she's bigger, louder and more mobile but we'll get through it!

Uncle Ned meets Harper for the first time

Uncle Ned visited Andy's Aunt Madge in Denver at the end of April. We don't get to see Uncle Ned very often, as he lives in a group home in Illinois. His visit was very brief but it was wonderful to see him and Harper together.
